Hotels Near Universal Studios

by Female Abroad

Hollywood is renowned for its well-known attractions and landmarks but when travellers are making travel plans, many of them desire to stay in hotels close to Universal Studios especially if that is the main reason for the trip. Luckily it is a theme park that the whole family can love as it is divided up into a variety of themes, including Jurassic Park, The Simpsons World, Harry Potter World, and The Walking Dead; each location has its own exciting rides and dining options.

Unlike Universal Florida, there are no hotels right on the property however there are over a dozen hotels within two miles of the park and most are located within North Hollywood or Burbank.

If you are looking for a hotel as close to the action as possible then you will want one located in Universal City:

• Sheraton Universal Hotel

• Hilton Los Angeles / Universal City

• Nite Inn at Universal City

When it comes to the next closest options, Burbank & North Hollywood would be good areas to look at with hotels such as:

• Best Western Plus Media Center Inn & Suites (Burbank)

• The Tangerine (Burbank)

• Hilton Garden Inn Burbank Downtown (Burbank)

• Safari Inn, a Coast Hotel (Burbank)

• The Garland (North Hollywood) - one of my favourites for "old school" Hollywood vibes

• Lexen Hotel - North Hollywood Universal Studios (North Hollywood)

• Comfort Inn & Suites North Hollywood

If you are worried about your budget then you could always check out Studio City which is a bit further away but due to this, they can offer additional amenities that you may not find at hotels near Universal Studios. Also booking a safe and clean 2 or 3 star property could also make the vacation easier on your wallet as well especially if you only plan on using it to sleep. Check out:

• El Patio Inn (Studio City)

• BLVD Hotel & Spa (Studio City)

There should be at least one hotel or resort that you can afford to stay at for a few nights, regardless of your budget. Plus many of the nearby hotels that are close but not within walking distance of the park offer free bus shuttles to and from the Universal Studios entrance. If you want to stay in Downtown LA (unless you are going for a Kings game I wouldn't, it is pretty rough), Hollywood, or near the studios then it is super easy to grab a cab or Super Shuttle that can take you to the park.

Another option would be booking a package. Hotels close to Universal Studios usually collaborate with the theme park to provide special package discounts to visitors plus a benefit of staying at one of the recommended hotels is early park entry to Harry Potter World; this early entry starts 1 hour before the park opens and is subject to modification and availability.

As none of these hotels are affiliated with The Female Abroad and we haven't stayed at most of them, this is just to help make your research a little easier. Due to this, you will have to do a bit of research to find out which hotel will work best for you. Here are a couple tips however that can help in your search.

  1. Don't just assume that the deal that's the lowest is the best.
    1. Does it have the amenities you need?
    2. If you pay a bit more, could you get a package that works better for you?
  2. Carefully consider your lodging options.
    1. Is it simple for you to get to the hotel from the airport if you don't intend to rent a car, and does the hotel provide a bus to the park?
    2. Will you be renting a car? Is there parking? Is it free?
  3. To find out more about prior visitors' experiences, read their reviews. Even though some reviews may be prejudiced, it's still worthwhile to read them to learn more.
  4. When it comes to rates, look at the star rating to make sure you are comparing apples with apples because a 2 star will always be less than a 4 star but if that 4 star saves you $50 per way in taxi fees, could that price difference actually be worth it?
    1. Another amenity that could help you save is free breakfast. A family of 4 may find this more important to their budget then a honeymooning couple.
    2. Shuttles, what times to they pick up / drop off? Are there multiples throughout the day? If you have little ones, you may end up paying for cab's or Ubers instead of using the shuttles if they do not align with nap times. If you want to stay until the end of the night then the shuttle times may not work either as some hotels have super early final pickup times.
